LAHORE, April 24: An exhibition of calligraphy titled ‘Nukta 2013’ by Noreen Akhtar, a 2012 graduate of the College of Art and Design, opened here on Wednesday.

The artist in her statement says: “I am inspired by the Arabic language, the language of the Holy Quran and Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). I use the Arabic alphabets in my art work and it makes me feel an everlasting relation with this language as it is the chosen language for all Muslims to pray in.

“In my recent works, I have tried to show importance of nukta in a different manner. Though it seems small and useless, it plays important part in completion of Arabic alphabets. In my present work I have enhanced the importance of nukta as it’s the only major difference in turning ‘hay’ into ‘jeem’. The effect is further enhanced by intermingling them with Arabic alphabets and specific Islamic illuminated colours.”

An exhibition of paintings by a Bahawalpur-based artist, Ghulam Hussain, opened at the City Heritage Museum on Wednesday.

The exhibition was organised by the Punjab Council of Arts in collaboration with the Lahore Museum. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Rahat Naveed Masood. A number of art fanciers including a large number of students from different art institutions visited the exhibition. There were some 30 or so paintings on display.

The exhibition would remain on display for three days, said an official of the Punjab Council of Arts. — Staff Reporter
