LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board is in the process of purchasing two luxury vehicles costing Rs 12.5 million for the use of high ups, ignoring recent orders of the government not to buy new cars.

Sources in PCB said on Wednesday that the order to buy the vehicles had been placed and the delivery was expected soon.

A purchase order worth Rs 7.5 million was placed to buy a Honda Jeep for the use of the Chief Operating officer, Subhan Ahmed, and a Toyota Jeep costing Rs 5 million was also being bought for the use of Director General, PCB, Javed Miandad.

The purchase of these latest vehicles is in clear violation of the government policy and defies the order of the newly appointed interim Chairman of the PCB, Najam Sethi, who urged the PCB financial advisors to cut down expenses in the annual budget of PCB, to be presented later this month or early next month.

“There is no need to buy such costly jeeps which will put the already financially crippled PCB under further burden,” said some employees of the board, seeking anonymity.

They said that the purchase of these vehicles at a time when the government has imposed a ban on buying new vehicles shows that PCB authorities are not bothered to abide by the orders.

“We appeal to the interim Chairman of the PCB to look into the matter and stop the purchase of these jeeps as it will put extra financial burden on the kitty of the Board,” they said adding that there are many unused cars available for the officers already.
