KHAR/PESHAWAR, June 22: A member of a local peace committee was killed and another injured in a blast near Pakistan-Afghanistan border area of Chamarkand tehsil of Bajaur Agency on Saturday.

Officials said members of the local peace committees Khateer Khan and Abdul Sattar Khan were inspecting the site of an earlier roadside blast in the area when a second explosive device planted by unidentified miscreants went off.

“Both the members of the peace committee were targeted by a remote-controlled improvised explosive device as a result Khateer Khan died on the spot while Abdul Sattar Khar was injured seriously,” said Ghulam Saidullah Khan, a senior official of the administration.

After the blast, members of the peace committee and local residents rushed to the site and shifted the injured to a local hospital.

The local administration and members of the peace committee launched a joint search operation in the area and arrested several suspected persons.

“We don’t know who is behind the attack. To find those responsible for it, the administration has launched an investigation,” the official said.

The attacks against the peace committee members in Chamarkand area came two days after some armed men attacked the post of Bajaur Levies in Marram Ghoondi area near Khar, killing two pro-government tribesmen.

No group has claimed responsibility for the two attacks.

In Peshawar, four policemen were injured when unidentified terrorists targeted their van with a bomb on Shaikh Mohammadi Road on on Saturday.The injured were identified as assistant sub-inspector Farman Khan, constable Javad Khan, driver Saifullah Khan and constable Saeed Khan. They were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital for treatment. Hospital sources said that the injured were in stable condition.

SP Shafiullah Khan said that it was a remote controlled bomb that was detonated through a remote. He said that some four kilograms of explosives were used in the blast.

The police party, the SP said, was patrolling the area in routine when it came under attack.
