PESHAWAR, June 7: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Friday said neither his government would favour the construction of Kalabagh dam nor would it change the new name of the province.

Mr Khattak told reporters here that his government would fully utilise the hydel power generation potential of the province to overcome shortage of electricity.

He said foreign investors would be invited to the province for the purpose and the government would provide them with complete security.

The chief minister said the deteriorating law and order situation was the main impediment in the way of progress of the province. “We will work day and night to restore peace in the province,” he said.

About the formation of the provincial cabinet, Mr Khattak said names of the ministers and portfolios would be finalised very soon and that there would be adequate share of women in the cabinet.

He said revolutionary changes would be made in the educational system, while effective and result-oriented measures would be taken on war footing for the revival of economy and elimination of corruption.

The chief minister said in the May 11 elections, the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had made a prudent and wise decision and not an emotional one by voting for the country, while the people of other provinces had voted for own provinces.

“The people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had voted for change in the existing system of injustice, exploitation and class difference, and the present government will replace it with a new, the best one in line with the people’s expectations,” he told reporters here.

Mr Khattak said to bring about the change in the province, he would not follow others and rather he would set examples for others to follow.

He elaborated on his agenda of change, good governance, reforms in the existing system of public service delivery and other priorities and said the people of the province would notice a positive and obvious change within a couple of weeks.

When asked about Nato supply and the US drone attacks, the chief minister said the provincial government would follow the national foreign policy on the two issues. He said the provincial government would extend full support to the federal government in formulating an effective policy to resolve the two issues and make a policy to ensure peace in the province.

Mr Khattak said his government would leave no stone unturned to come up to the people’s expectations by bringing about the real change and would deliver much more than what the people had expected of it.
