MINGORA/BATKHELA, May 12: The Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf swept the elections in Swat valley and Malakand protected area belying the predictions of political pundits about the region.

In Swat, the PTI grabbed two national assembly seats and five out of seven provincial assembly seats. One seat each went to ANP and PML-N. The defeat of PML-N’s strong candidate Amir Muqam in Swat is a great upset.

In Malakand protected area, the PTI won the lone seat of national assembly (NA-35) and one (PK-99) out of two provincial assembly seats. One seat (PK-98) went to PPP’s Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha. The defeat of PPP provincial finance minister Humayun Khan and Lal Mohammad Khan, former MNA, was another upset in Malakand.

Swat NA-29 was won by PTI’s Murad Saeed who bagged 88,291 votes while PML-N’s Syed Mohammad Ali Shah got 24,083 votes. Saleemur Rheman of PTI is leading with clear majority in NA-30 seat, getting 43,310 votes, while PML-N’s Engr Amir Muqam is the runner up with 17,500 votes. Through result of a few polling stations is awaited but Saleem is winning with clear margin.

PTI candidate Fazal Hakeem Khan won the PK-80 seat bagging 17,787 votes while JI’s Mohammad Amin got 11,479 votes. The PK-81 seat was grabbed by PTI candidate Azizullah with 13,045 votes defeating Habib Ali Shah of JUI-F who got 11,635 votes. In PK-82 PTI’s Dr Amjad Ali returned by getting 15,082 votes defeating ANP’s Waqar Ahmed Khan who got 9,009 votes.

In PK-83, PTI’s Mohibullah Khan got 10,983 votes while PML-N’s Haji Jalat Khan got 8,735 votes. PK-84 went to PTI’s Mehmood Khan who obtained 11,024 votes while ANP’s Ayub Khan clinched second position by getting 7,893 votes.

ANP’s Jaffar won PK-65 with 14,262 votes and PML-N’s Mian Sharafat Ali got 13,079 votes. PK-86 was won by PML-N’s Qaimus Khan with 10,568 while JUI’s Ali Shah got 10,26 votes.

In Malakand protected area too the PTI shined. PTI’s Juniad Akbar won NA-35 by grabbing 52,249 votes while JUI-F’s Hafiz Mohammad Seed remained the runner up with 22,268 votes, while Lal Mohammad Khan of PPP got third position.

In PK-90, PTI’s Shakil Khan advocate clinched first position with 27,261 votes while former provincial finance minister Mohammad Hamayun Khan of PPP remained the runner up who got 11,853 votes. In PK-98, PPP’s Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha emerged victorious with 16,067 while PTI’s Yasar Khan got 11,802 votes.
