No more the city of lights

The largest city of Pakistan, the metropolitan hub of this country, Karachi, our city that was once colourful with beautiful breeze filling its evenings. There was hope, zeal and enthusiasm in people’s lives. But alas! The city is no more the city of lights! The city has been facing multiple problems. Growing population is one of them. Uncontrolled and unsystematic movement of people in Karachi from all provinces of Pakistan, as well as from other Asian countries has created a lot of problems for Karachiites. The fundamental problems are concerned with the basic needs of people e.g. economic, over-population in residential areas, water supply, electricity, communication, etc. Slow working progress of developmental projects, poor road conditions, transport problems and many others have added to the miseries of the people. However, the biggest problem is the poor law and order situation. Terrorism has snatched the peace of the city. The prevailing violence is the result of political conspiracy. The concerned authorities should take necessary measures to ensure peace in the city for the protection and security of its citizens. Iqra Ashraf, Karachi Facebook addiction

Facebook is used by millions of people on daily basis as they find it the most entertaining social networking website. But the state of sadness is that our school-going kids pay more attention to their FB profile rather than their books and home tasks. Parents are requested to take serious notice of this. Parents should not provide internet facility to children aged eight to 12 years. If children won’t have internet at home, they won’t be able to use Facebook and hence will focus on their studies and other healthy activities. Sadya Mohsin, Karachi Education

The system of education in Pakistan is meant to create a class divide! Schools that provide quality education are so expensive that a common man can’t afford to send his children to such schools. On the other hand, the schools that are affordable provide substandard education that doesn’t groom children to meet the challenges of the practical world. The government should reform the educational system in a way that every citizen of the country can acquire quality education, irrespective of their social status, gender, cast or creed.
