KARACHI, May 10: Police and Rangers escorted the election material received by all presiding officers from the offices of returning officers to the polling stations concerned on Friday.

The district returning officers (DROs), returning officers (ROs) and assistant returning officers (AROs) — who have already moved in the camp offices in their respective districts — supervised the handing over process of the election material that included ballot papers, ballot boxes, stamps and other required stationery to the polling staff.

Heavy contingents of Rangers and police were deployed in and around the offices of the DROs/ROs on Friday.

Army personnel were also posted outside the offices of the DRO/ROs.

Parts of M.A. Jinnah Road and other thoroughfares adjacent to the city courts were closed for traffic for security as well as for parking buses and minibuses used for transportation of the election material.

Similar measures were also witnessed at the district courts in Malir and other camp offices of the DROs/ROs, set up in their districts.

The camp office of the DRO (west), ROs and AROs was housed in the office of the town municipal administration near Habib Bank Chowrangi in SITE; the office of the DRO (east) along with ROs and AROs was at Federal Urdu University’s Gulshan Campus and the offices of DRO (central) and his subordinates were established at the Government Comprehensive Girls High School in North Nazimabad.

The DROs of south and Malir along with ROs, AROs and their staff are performing elections duties at their respective courts in the city courts and district court Malir, respectively.

All the DROs, ROs, AROs will remain in their offices till the finalisation of the poll results.

For district west, District and Sessions Judge (DJ) Shahnawaz Tariq is the DRO, Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Irfan Ahmed Meo is RO and assistant sessions judge Ayaz Mustafa Jokhio and judicial magistrate (JM) Sohail Ahmed Mashori are AROs for NA-239, PS-89 & PS-90.

ADSJ Abdul Naeem Memon, RO, and assistant sessions judge Syed Nadeem Hussain Shah and JM Mohammad Afzal are AROs for NA 240, PS-91 & PS-92; ADSJ Shagufta Siddiqui is RO with assistant sessions judge Syed Khalid Anwar Jaffri and JM Azizullah Khoso as AROs for NA-241, PS-93 & PS-94; and ADSJ Abdullah Channa, RO, with assistant sessions judge Allah Bachayo Gabol and JMs Ghulam Murtaza Baloch & Devo aka Sagar as AROs for NA-242 and PS-95, PS-96 & PS-97.

For district central, DJ Shaukat Memon is the DRO, ADSJ Naseem Mansoor, RO, assistant sessions judge Ali Ahmed Jan and JM Mohammad Yasin, AROs, for NA-243 and (PS-98 & PS-99); ADSJ Aliya Latif Unar, RO, JMs Fida Abbasi and Raja Kumar, AROs, for NA-244 (PS-100 & PS-102); Rashida Siddiqui, RO, JMs Anwar-ul-Hasan Siddiqui and Asghar Ali Tanwiri, AROs, for NA-245 (PS-101 & PS-103); ADSJ Ambreen, RO, JMs Mohammad Aslam Chandio and Abdul Waheed Khoso, AROs, for NA-246 (PS-105 & PS-106); and ADJS Javed Akhtar Awan, RO, JMs Ali Suleman and Asif Ahmed, AROs, for NA-247 (PS-104 & PS-107).
