KARACHI, May 5: The Karachi City Government has finalized a scheme to improve the Mauripur Road, the Shirin Jinnah Colony Road and important thoroughfares in Clifton area.

A meeting here on Monday reviewed the plan and adopted decisions to get the scheme efficiently implemented.

DCO Karachi Mir Hussain Ali directed that road networks across the city, which are in a shambles, be repaired.

The meeting was informed that work on a 2km-long road, right from the Mauripur Road (Hawkesbay Road) and the Grex Village to Keamari, would be initiated soon at an estimated cost of Rs33.7 million and that the project includes construction of footpaths and widening of the road.

The meeting also reviewed improvements plans envisaged for Hub River Road, Gulistan-i-Jauhar Road and Rashid Minhas Road, and it was decided that the DCO-Karachi would personally visit these sites.

It was further decided that work would be initiated on Manghopir Road and an eight-km-long road from Banaras Chowk to Surjani. The scheme is expected to benefit the residents of Surjani Town, New Karachi, Hamdard University and Shadman Town.

The meeting took into stock the proposed improvement on two different thoroughfares in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

Another plan, aimed at stretching Rashid Minhas Road right up to the University Road near Suparco, through a five km-long belt, against an estimated cost of Rs 13.536 million was also discussed.

According to another plan, a four-km-long road would be built between Safari Park and Pehlawan Goth at a cost of Rs 9 million.

The meeting reviewed the development project of Gulistan-i-Jauhar Phase-III at a cost of Rs 64.87 million. The project includes a two-km-long road from Askari Road to NIPA flyover, besides construction of footpaths, bus stands and installation of lights.

Meanwhile, the under the Hub River Project, road would be constructed between PSO Petrol Pump and Moch Koh Goth bridge, the existing strip would be widened and a rainfall drain would also constructed along the road.

The meeting was informed that Rs 31 million have been allocated for construction of road from Dawood Chowrangi to Gulberg Chowrangi, Landhi.—APP
