SAHIWAL, May 4: Four members of a family were shot dead on Sunday in a nearby Chak 141/9-L.

Shafique had contracted marriage with Shahani some three years ago. The couple had a two-year-old daughter, Samra. A few days back, Shafique divorced his wife Shahani and kidnapped her sisters Naila and Abida Guddi and took them to Karachi.

Asghar, the father of abductees, reported the matter to police for the recovery of his two daughters. This annoyed the accused who on Sunday entered the house of his former wife and opened indiscriminate fire on inmates and escaped.

Consequently, his former father-in-law Asghar, mother-in-law Kulsoom, divorced wife Shahani and his daughter Samra died instantly.

Police arrested the parents of Shafique while the kidnapped sisters were yet to be recovered.

Dera Rahim police have registered a case. However, police said they had found the footprints of three people at the place of incident. The police are tracing the remaining accomplices of Shafique.

SHOT DEAD: Armed bandits on Saturday night shot dead an eighth class student and injured his father on resistance during a dacoity bid at Chak 60/5-L.

Farooq and his father Falak Sher were asleep when dacoits entered the house, held them at pistol point and started collecting cash and valuables. The intruders opened fire on them for holding them out. As a result, Farooq died on the spot while his father received serious bullet wounds.
