MUZAFFARABAD, Jan 10: A soldier was killed by Indian firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) in a southern border area of Azad Kashmir on Thursday.

According to an ISPR statement, Havildar Mohyuddin died in the unprovoked  Indian firing at around 2.40pm in Batal sector of Poonch district.

There has been tension in the sector for several days and the authorities closed a road vulnerable to Indian shelling as a precautionary measure.

On Wednesday, Indian troops had fired on a truck carrying intra-Kashmir trade goods, smashing its windscreen. No-one was injured in the incident.

According to local people, a boat ferrying residents of Dharamsal and Mehndala villages across River Poonch also came under fire.

Last month, a civilian was killed in the same area by Indian firing.
