KARACHI, Dec 6: Two activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement were gunned down in the old city area within the remit of the Napier police station on Thursday night, officials said.

The police said that the two men were passing through the Old Haji Camp on Syed Mehmood Shah Road on a motorbike when they were targeted in a drive-by shooting.

One of the victims sustained four gunshot wounds while his accomplice was hit by two bullets, said an official at the Napier police station. A senior police officer of the area said that the one who sustained two gunshot wounds tried to run away but collapsed shortly afterwards.

The police said they were rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Initially, the bodies remained unidentified, the police said. During the course of investigation, they added, the victims were identified as Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Owais, MQM activists of the party’s Lyari sector.

Man killed in Nazimabad A young man was shot dead under a bridge in Nazimabad on Thursday night, police said.

They added the victim, later identified as 24-year-old Bilal Madni with the help of a CNIC recovered from his pocket, was shot at and wounded near Nazimabad No 7 within the remit of the Nazimabad police station. He was rushed to the nearby Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died during treatment, the police said.

A duty officer of the Nazimabad police station said the victim was a resident of Manghopir Colony. He sustained three bullet wounds in the abdomen, the officer added.

Investigation was under way to ascertain a motive for the killing, the police added.

Body found The body of an unidentified young man stuffed in a gunny bag was found on Abul Hasan Ispahani Road, police said.

The victim had been shot in the head, the officials said, adding that the body also bore torture marks.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities, the police said.
