LAHORE, Oct 23: Multan and Lahore also qualified for Punjab Youth Sports Festival baseball semi-finals by winning their respective league matches at Iqbal Park Sports Complex here on Tuesday.

Multan defeated Lahore 15-7 while Rawalpindi carved out 9-5 win against Gujranwala to confirm places in the last four. In the semi-finals, Gujranwala will take on Multan and Lahore will meet Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile, in other sports, Lahore and Faisalabad divisions are going neck and neck.

In girls’ basketball Lahore beat Sargodha 48-21 to take on Rawalpindi in the final. At the inter-varsity level, Lahore has booked the place in the final, while the second final will be decided on Wednesday.

In college table tennis, and badminton, Lahore defeated Faisalabad in both the events. In Badminton school level competitions, Lahore was declared first while Sahiwal got second position. In boxing, 55 kgs, Ali Ahmed of Lahore beat Asghar Ali of Gujranwala, Naveedullah of Sargodha beat Romaan of Multan.

In 65 kgs, Ashfaq (Sahiwal) beat Abdur Rehman (Lahore) and Mohammad Asif of Gujranwala beat Asif Mughal of Multan. In 75 kgs, Mohammad Irfan (Faisalabad) beat Waqas Ahmed (Lahore) and Aftab of Multan defeated Shoaib (Sargodha). In general public football, Dera Ghazi Khan outplayed Rawalpindi 3-1 and Bahawalpur edged out Sahiwal 3-2 and both the matches were decided on penalty kicks. The semi-final and final of the Rugby Sevens will be played at Defence Stadium.

In blind cricket, Bahawalpur beat Sargodha, Rawalpindi defeated Faisalabad, Sahiwal thrashed Multan and Gujranwala beat Lahore. The healthy baby competition was won by Mohammad Musa of Gujranwala while Lahore’s Rana Faisal stood second and Larab Zahra of Multan third.

Meanwhile, the students of Engineering University displayed their talent by making remote control machines and robots while fine arts models were also put on display.

In girls’ hockey, Lahore beat Sargodha while Bahawalpur beat Faisalabad.

In tug of war (schools), Rawalpindi beat Lahore. In college final Gujranwala defeated Multan 2-0 while University of Lahore moved past Sargodha 2-0. University of Lahore prevailed over other divisions in athletics. — Sports Reporter
