Going places

Looking at a map we can easily understand the location of a particular place, however, not many of us know where a place would be if someone was just to tell us its location by referring to the lines on a map. Let us look at what these lines are.

Equator: A line running east and west across the middle of the globe

Parallels: The lines running east and west, parallel to the Equator

Latitude: Parallel lines that tell you how far a place is from the Equator

Meridians: The lines running from the North Pole to the South Pole

Longitude: The lines that run east or west of the Prime Meridian.
