ISLAMABAD: The commission investigating the May 2 US raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad changed on Tuesday the date for its meeting with former ambassador to US Husain Haqqani from Dec 14 to Dec 19.

According to a new announcement, the former envoy has been asked to appear before the commission on Monday, the same day the Supreme Court will start hearing petitions on the ‘memogate’ filed by PML-N president Nawaz Sharif and others.

Earlier, the commission had summoned Mr Haqqani for a meeting on Dec 14.

According to the head of the commission, Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, the former ambassador is being summoned because the panellists want to find out the details of the visas issued by Pakistan’s embassy in Washington during his service.

Mr Haqqani told Dawn that he would definitely appear before the commission. “I will gladly appear before the commission and offer whatever information its members seek from me,” he said.

“I have been intimated about the meeting on the 19th but have yet to receive a written notice,” he said. “(However) 19th is also the date for the Supreme Court hearing on my petition.”

On Tuesday, the commission recorded statements of Asfandyar Wali Khan, Afrasyab Khattak, Senator Prof Khurshid Ahmed and Hamid Khan.
