What a sight of this gigentic monument build by one of the finest rulers of ancient Indian sub-continent ! We should preserve our shared history and should not try to distort it either by fault or design. In India, historians say - had Shershah Suri survived a bit more, the history of this sub-continent would have been totally different. He was ahead of his times and many programmes which he launched during his short stint as India's ruler, are ideals of the rulers of modern India. Good administration, better tax compliance, small bu effective military and robust infrastructure were his main planks. Rohtas Fort is a great memorial built by the great ruler. Lots of thanks for giving us this picture.

Thank you Dawn for reminding us our history. I had no idea that there was anything like the Rohtas Fort in Pakistan. I am glad that someone was able to get our government's attention to these monuments so that we could preserve it for our generations to come !

You are Damn right. Although, he had a brief rule, he contributed immensely to the sub-continent. Two of his famous contributions are the "Rupee" and the "Grand Trunk Road". The region would have been much better if the Mughals hadnt come back.

Same fort of Sher Shar Suri is located at Rohtas (Sasaram, State-Bihar, India).

Its a good news that at last the gov is paying attention towards preservation of our historical monuments which have been going to extinguish due to long neglect.Rohtas fort is the architech of one of our greatest heroes but more appropriatly the greates of all our historical heroes of this sub continent.Thanks to gov for this.

If you read the old classic "chandrakanta" , tale of aiyyars and talisms, there is lots of mention of rohtas fort. I am not sure if this is the fort or the other one in Bihar as mentioned by many commentrators here.

I recall one architect Late Sohail Akbar was working on the restorartion of the Fort. He died while he climbed up the stairs and had an heart attack and did not servive. The late architect was the cutodian of the restoration of Balti Fort, as well. When ever the goverment takes up the restorartion, works and contribution of Late Sohail Akbar need to remembered and recorded.

This step of preserving and protecting our cultural heritage must be appreciated.
