SIALKOT, April 28: Instead of facilitating smooth functioning of institutes by equipping them with requisite resources, the Sialkot education authorities have closed down three such primary schools.

Having more than 100-year old structures, these schools have long been declared 'dangerous' by the buildings department.

With curtains for state-run MC Boys Primary School, Adda Pasruriyaan, Sialkot; MC Boys Primary School, Chowk Shaheedan, Sialkot; and MC Boys Primary School, Mohallah Waterworks, a good number of students have been denied the opportunity of making friends with books.

Officials said the local education department lacked funds for repairs of these buildings or to shift these schools to other suitable places.

Assistant Education Officer Sheikh Sajid Qadir said the schools had been closed down because of many reasons one of which was the fact that the teachers outnumbered the students.

He said the teaching staff of these schools had been 'adjusted' in other schools and so are the students.

Citizens Rights Protection Forum chairman Dr Muneer Butt criticised the district administration for closing the schools. He demanded that the authorities concerned repair or reconstruct the schools in the interest of citizens.

CADET COLLEGE:Regular classes at the Sialkot Cadet College near Pasrur will begin on May 2 as all necessary arrangements have been made by the government.

Commissioner (Gujranwala Division) Saeed Wahla told newsmen during his visit to the college that 90 students had been admitted to the college. He said the regular classes of Grade-8 would start on May 2.

Project Director Rana Zahid Hussain told the commissioner that 12,650-foot long boundary wall had been raised around the college besides completion of Admin Block, 12 classrooms and two hostels.

He said the total estimated cost of the project was Rs330 million, out of which Rs262 million had been spent.

He said work on grounds had been delayed because of paucity of funds. A tubewell had been sunk for provision of potable water.
