ISLAMABAD, Sept 11: Australian High Commissioner Peter Heyward on Tuesday said that Australian entrepreneurs were keen to invest in agricultural in addition to mining and energy in Pakistan.

Speaking in a meeting with Chairman of Board of Investment Saleem H. Mandviwalla, Heyward suggested that Pakistan should send a business delegation to Australia for business-to-business meetings with investors of Australia. Pakistan should also hold investment conferences in Australia for match-making of the investor communities from both sides of the two countries, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Mandviwalla stated that trade potential between the economies of Australia and Pakistan needs to be explored for enhancing bilateral trade relations.

The BoI chairman briefed the Australian high commissioner about the investment possibilities in Pakistan and in this context mentioned the Special Economic Zones which are investor friendly.

Separately, The Australian high commissioner also addressed the members of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) and said that Australia had the potential for investment in specialised sectors.

There is an immense potential of bilateral trade between two countries specially agriculture products from Pakistan such as mango and citrus posses the potential to penetrate the Australian market because of its quality and exceptionally good taste.

The high commissioner said that Australia could help Pakistan in capacity building of its professionals and also could provide expertise in improving agricultural productivity, post-harvest value addition, livestock etc.
