ISLAMABAD, July 30: The government on Monday appointed Ali Arshad Hakeem as secretary revenue division besides his current posting as chairman in FBR.
A notification issued here stated that the additional charge of the secretary had been given to Mr Hakeem from July 30.
As per law, Mr Hakeem, being from the private sector, lacks administrative powers to transfer tax officers above grade 19.
He also lacks powers to sit in departmental promotional body or central selection board. These powers are only with the Secretary of Revenue Division.
To fill the gap, the government on Monday gave the additional charge of the post of secretary to Mr Hakeem.
Experts say that the government cannot appoint or give an additional charge of the secretary revenue division to a person who is appointed from the private sector on contract basis.
