BADIN, June 20: A large number of growers of Golarchi taluka staged a sit-in on Morjhar Mori (bridge) and blocked the Badin-Karachi highway for over three hours on Wednesday in protest against water shortage.

The protesters said that more than 3,000 acres of land was affected and seedlings had dried up because of a persistent shortage of water in Morjhar minor, Bhanery Shakh and Jakhejee minors.

The shortage in the canals is not only casting adverse impact on Kharif crops but has also created a crisis of drinking water across the Badin district.

They said that their crops had been destroyed and they had suffered huge losses. People in coastal areas were facing scarcity of drinking water because wells, too, had dried up, they said.

ZAKAT: Chairman of the District Zakat and Ushr Committee, Haji Mohammad Ramzan Chandio, has said that Zakat funds are being distributed among the deserving people in a transparent manner.
