KARACHI: A considerable amount of gold and silver was stolen by burglars who broke seven locks of a jewellery shop located in the main bazaar of Shah Faisal Colony-1 sometime during the night intervening Friday and Saturday.

The owner of the shop, Rao Shabbir, told the area police that around 480 grams of gold and some amount of silver was missing when he examined his burgled shop on Saturday morning. He said he was shocked to see all locks of his shops were broken.

Shah Faisal Colony SHO Haji Mohammed Ishaq told Dawn that not a single security guard or watchman was posted at the bazaar despite the fact that it was the main bazaar of this area. He quoted Mr Shabbir as telling the police that he had shut down the four secret cameras that were installed in his shop at the close of the day’s business in order to avoid an accidental fire.

The officer said the initial FIR would be registered when the shop owner would turn up to lodge it.
