LAHORE: The railway station will be connected with the Orange Line Metro Train’s Boharwala Chowk station through a 40-foot elevated walkway for pedestrians for the convenience of intercity passengers.

The weekly progress review meeting of the steering committee of the project, presided over by Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sunbal, was told on Wednesday.

People could also avail themselves of the elevated walkway facility on this track and thus will be able to go from one point to the other without actually walking by themselves.

The meeting was told that the construction of an underground passage was also being planned for connecting the Anarkali station of the metro train with the MAO College station of the Metro Bus, the Green Line. Walker will be able to ride either mode of transport at this point.

Nespak general manager Salman Hafeez told the meeting that about 57 per cent civil work of the project had been completed. Maximum percentage of work (71pc) has been completed along package one of the project from Dera Gujjaran to Chauburji.

The meeting was informed that the gray structure of 11 elevated stations being constructed along package one, which will be handed over to CR-NORINCO by next month for carrying out electrical and mechanical works, would be completed within 127 days by the end of June.

Meanwhile, the LDA’s Town Planning Wing staff carried out a massive operation against illegal constructions along the newly-constructed alternate route to Raiwind from Qadar Tobash Chowk, Khyaban-i-Jinnah to Defence Road.

The LDA staff demolished 13 structures -- five workshops, three basements, three offices and two boundary walls -- that had been constructed in contravention of building bye-laws.
