MITHI: A case has been registered against three Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmakers over allegedly hunting five rare species of deer during their incursion this weekend in Nagarparkar area.

A First Offence Report (FOR) has been registered in this regard against PPP lawmakers Faqeer Sher Mohammed Bilalani, Syed Ghulam Mustsfa Shah and Nawab Sardar Khan Chandio on the complaint of Ashfaq Memon, the game officer of the area.

A three-member committee has already been constituted to hold an inquiry into the hunting of five rare Chinkara (Gazella bennettii) species of deer in Nagarparker a couple of days ago — allegedly by the three lawmakers

The deputy conservator of provincial wildlife department, Ghulam Sarwar Jamali, who reached Mithi on Thursday, said he has “directed the game watchers to take action against hunters according to law and ensure the protection of race species in the area”.

PML-N lawmaker from Tharparkar Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, PTI leader Haleem Adil Shaikh and other people belonging to various walks of life welcomed the registration of FOR and demanded exemplary punishment for all those involved the 'heinous offence'.

The report of this illegal hunting by sitting lawmakers stirred an uproar in Tharparkar district as civil society and animal rights activists widely condemned the alleged violation of relevant laws as well as game laws by the legislators, who they said were supposed to legislate and ensure implementation of laws.
