SIALKOT: Electricity supply to Iqbal Manzil (the birthplace of Dr Muhammad Iqbal), remained suspended on Thursday, on his 78th death anniversary.

Bazm-i-Iqbal President Nasir Shamim Khan Lodhi said the Gujranwala Electric Power Company had adopted a unique way to pay homage to the national poet by keeping his birthplace without electricity.

Iqbal Manzil in charge Syed Riaz Husain Naqvi said alternative power supply through a UPS lasted for few hours and after that CCTV cameras became dysfunctional.

Gepco officials said a technical fault had caused suspension of the power supply.
