RAWALPINDI: A union council chairman and a councillor belonging to the PML-N along with 120 unidentified people were booked on the charges of kidnapping, attacking the police and terrorism.

However, none of the accused has been arrested so far.

In the FIR, the police claimed that a constable, Omer Razaq, allegedly kidnapped by the protesters in the Jatli village on Sunday was still missing. The protesters also snatched a wireless set and files of important cases from the police, the FIR added.

The protest was held by the villagers of Jatli after the body of a nine-year-old boy, who had been missing since March 21, was recovered from a well in the village.

On the other hand, the SHO of Jatli, Sub-Inspector Malik Nawaz, was suspended by the city police officer Rawalpindi for failing to recover the missing boy.

SI Karamat Ali, who was leading the police team, sustained minor injuries when the protesters attacked the police. In the FIR lodged against the protesters, the SI said the police were shifting the body of the boy to hospital for a postmortem when a large number of villagers, led by Chaudhry Abid, Adha UC chairman Mohammad Khan Bhatti, councilor Iftikhar Ahmed, Ishtiaq Anjum along with 100 to 120 people intercepted the police van.

“Two of the protesters - Hasan Akhtar and Abid Ali - threatened the police and fired gunshots which hit the police van,” SI Karamat alleged. He said the police officials escaped from the scene but were chased and caught by the mob.

He claimed that he was tortured by two men which caused him injuries. The SI claimed that the mob also tore the uniform of the police and snatched a mobile phone and Rs20,000 from him.

The protesters also kidnapped constable Omer Razaq and detained some other police officials in a nearby house. Later, the injured SI was thrown into a street.

Mazhar Hussain, the father of the deceased, told Dawn that he was waiting for the police to tell him about the progress made by the police to apprehend the murderers of his son.

Mohsin Ali, a student of class III, went missing while returning home after taking his final examination on March 21. His body was found from an abandoned well in the Jatli village on Sunday.
