RAWALPINDI: A team of the Rawalpindi police will leave for Karachi on Monday to arrest four men suspected of attacking singer-turned fashion designer and evangelist Junaid Jamshed at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport on March 27.

According to police sources, the police team would be headed by Sub-Inspector Raja Arshad. They will arrest and bring back the suspects who allegedly belonged to Sunni Tehreek.

The police investigating officer told Dawn that the accused had come to Rawalpindi from Karachi to participate in the chehlum of Mumtaz Qadri.

Raja Arshad, who is leading the investigation into the incident, said one of the four suspects, Mohammad Akhtar Munshi, had been identified as the prime accused. He owns a garment factory in Karachi. Another suspect, Zainul Abideen, runs a medicine business, he added.

He said after the arrest of the four suspects, it would be easy for the police to track down the others.

Police had sought the verification of the suspects from Nadra after taking their CCTV footage from the airport authorities.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has directed the city police officer Rawalpindi to register a case on the complaint of Junaid Jamshed and arrest the accused.
