SAHIWAL: A duty doctor at the DHQ hospital emergency ward allegedly beat up a junior colleague “for not prescribing medicines of a certain pharmaceutical company to patients.”

Dr Umair and his two companions thrashed Dr Asad as he delayed checking blood pressure of a patient. An eyewitness said Dr Umair slapped Dr Asad which led to a scuffle. The paramedics on duty intervened and got the matter resolved.

On learning about the incident, Assistant Professor Dr Muntazir Mehdi rushed to the emergency ward and on inquiry learnt that Dr Umair wanted his subordinate to prescribe medicines of a certain pharmaceutical company to patients but he refused.

“Only because of my refusal to heed Dr Umar’s advice, he and his three fellows tortured me,” alleged Dr Asad.

As assistant professor questioned Dr Umair about the incident, he first tried to clear his position and then lost his cool and scuffled with him. The eyewitness claimed that Dr Umair, along with his two friends Usman and Tanvir, gave a beating to the assistant professor as well. Dr Umair later fled the scene.

DHQ hospital Medical Superintendent Sheikh Manzoor called the Farid Town police which registered a case against Dr Umair and four others under sections 506 and 337 of PPC.
