HYDERABAD: Jai Parkash and Nasir Shaikh were declared elected president and general secretary, respectively, of the Hyderabad Press Club, according to unofficial results announced after polling was held on the club’s premises on Tuesday.

Mr Parkash bagged 167 votes to defeat his rival, Farooq Soomro, who polled 64 votes. Mr Shaikh secured 186 votes as against 41 scored by his rival Basharat Jatoi.

The other office-bearers declared elected were Farhan Affendi (vice president), Danish Nafis (joint secretary) and Ashok Sharma (treasurer).

Ali Hassan, Mohammad Hussain Khan, Ilyas Warsi, Akhtar Pirzada, Khalid Khokhar, Abdul Rauf Chandio, Mansoor Mari, Lala Rehman Samoon, Suhail Sangi and Syed Noor Alam Shah (unopposed) were declared elected members of the governing body.
