GUJRAT: The Sara-i-Alamgir Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) has made the Canal View Park along the upper Jhelum canal fully functional, making it the sole recreational facility for locals.

Though the TMA had initially established the park by only constructing a boundary wall with an iron fence with Rs5 million in 2006, but the facility lacked basic infrastructure of a recreational site such as grass, plants, flowers, lights, pathways, swings and seating. The boundary wall and fence had also been damaged over time due to negligence of the authorities concerned.

Sara-i-Alamgir Assistant Commissioner Shoaib Nisoana who also held the office of the TMA administrator had launched the project of renovating the park. The project was launched as a public-private partnership for which a three-member beautification committee was constituted around two months ago comprising notables of Sara-i-Alamgir city.

The committee after generating funds from local donors renovated the park with basic facilities such as concrete benches, pathways, canopies, flowers, trees, poles and lights as well swings for the children.

Although the park is now open for public, it will most likely be formally inaugurated on May 28.
