ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has surrendered unutilised Rs20 million to the government during this fiscal year.

Sources in the IHC told Dawn that the IHC Chief Justice Mohammad Anwar Khan Kasi had rejected a summary sent by the administration seeking disbursement of leftover amount among the IHC employees.

The sources said that the summary proposed that instead of surrendering the surplus amount it could be distributed among the IHC employees in the shape of additional salary.

According to the sources, austerity measures have saved the amount.

The government had increased the budget for 2014-2015 by Rs53.109 million to Rs414.64 million.

Previously, the surplus amount used to be distributed among the employees of the IHC. However, this time the IHC has returned the remaining amount back to the government.

A senior IHC official when contacted told Dawn that other government departments/ministries also deposit leftover funds to the finance division. He said that surrendering the surplus amount to the finance division was a routine matter.
