RAWALPINDI: A former president of the proscribed Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat (ASWJ), Rawalpindi chapter, who was on the most wanted list of the Punjab Counterterrorism Department (CTD), was arrested from Taxila on Monday.

A case was also registered against him with the CTD police station. According to a security source, Mufti Tanveer Alam Farooqui was wanted by the CTD for delivering hate speeches and illegal fund raising. He said Farooqui was also wanted by the Rawalpindi police in a terrorism-related case registered with the Sadiqabad police.

The source said the accused had gone into hiding to avoid arrest as he was on the top of the list of ‘hardcore militants’ in Punjab.
