KHAR: The government-run educational institutions in Bajaur Agency will reopen today (Monday) after two and half months winter vacations.

An official of local education department told Dawn on Sunday that all arrangements had been made to reopen the schools and colleges on Monday. He said that the department had issued notification to the headmasters, principals and in charges of relevant schools and colleges across the agency about reopening of the educational institutions from Monday and ensuring 100 per cent attendance of both the students and teachers.

The official said that special committees had been formed to check attendance of teachers in the educational institutions, adding that action would be taken against the teachers and other staff who were found absent from duty on Monday.

AFGHAN SOLDIER OPERATED UPON: A solider of the Afghan National Army has been successfully operated upon for appendix at the agency headquarters hospital here.

Sources said that Bashir Khan was taken to the hospital after he complained of appendix pain during duty in the bordering Ghakhi area of Afghanistan’s Kunar province.

Sources at the hospital said that the Afghan trooper was successfully operated upon and was recovering fast. They said that the soldier would remain in the hospital for next two to four days.

Meanwhile, Bajaur Scouts Commandant Colonel Mir Amir Ali visited the hospital and enquired after the Afghan solider and presented him a bouquet of flowers.

On the occasion, the Afghan soldier thanked the Pakistani security forces and health officials for taking care of him and the hospitality during his stay in hospital.

This was the second time that an Afghan soldier was treated in Bajaur hospital. Earlier, a soldier of Afghan army was also taken to the hospital on December 6, 2014.
