SWABI: The district police on Monday educated the principals and headmasters of public and private educational institutions on a special software to be installed into mobile phones to help inform the police in case of any emergency at the schools.

The district police in this regard convened a meeting with heads of the educational institutions at Maneri high school here on Monday to educate them about the use of the software.

Sajjad Khan, district police officer, informed the participants that the software would link the schools and colleges with the Swabi police lines at Shahmansoor.

He said that with the application of the software the entire police department in the province would come to know about the location of the school where the incident occurred to be able to take prompt action.

However, Mr Khan warned wrong use of the software could create problems for both the police and school managements. The operator should use it only in case of emergency,” he stressed.

The DPO said that head of each school would buy a separate cell number and a mobile set which could be used round the clock for the purpose.

NARCOTICS SEIZED: The district police on Monday arrested nine smugglers, including a woman, and seized 12 kilogram heroin and 22 kilogram charas from their possession here.

The arrested persons included Habibur Rehman, Lal Zada, Arif Khan, Baswar Ali, Shiraz Khan, Ali Zar Khan, Mohammad Haris, Hamza Ahmad and Zar Bibi.

The police said that the arrests were made during raids and that separate cases had been registered against the alleged smugglers who wanted to ship the contraband to Punjab.
