MANSEHRA: Unidentified assailants shot dead the wife of an assistant professor of Hazara University at their residence in Ghazi Kot Township here on Tuesday.

The victim herself was a lecturer at the Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST), and visiting her husband Mohammad Zahid, who is associated with the journalism department of Hazara University.

The incident occurred at around 10:00am when armed men allegedly barged into their house at Ghazi Kot Township and shot and injured his wife seriously.

Mr Zahid, hailing from Urmor area of Peshawar, while registering an FIR with police stated that he was on duty at the university when he received a phone call at about 10:00am that his wife was shot and injured. He said that he rushed home and picked her injured wife, but she died on way to hospital. According to police, the victim received multiple bullet injuries. The city police registered the case and have started investigation.

PRISONER INJURED: An under-trail prisoner was shot and injured by police when he attempted to escape from their custody here on Tuesday. Police said that the prisoner, Tahir, attempted to escape after doctors examined him at the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital.

The prisoner received bullet injures and was referred to Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad where his condition was out of danger. Tahir was arrested in a murder case last year. Speaking to mediapersons, his family members claimed that their son was innocent and police had fired at him without any reasons. The city police have registered an FIR.
