PPP MPA claims husband forced her resignation at gunpoint

KARACHI: Perveen Junejo of the PPP has denied that she willingly resigned as member of the Sindh Assembly and accused her husband of having forced her to sign the resignation paper at gunpoint.
Ms Junejo, who won the PS-76 (Dadu-III) seat in last year’s general elections, said she was surprised to see reports on Friday that Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani had accepted her resignation.
She alleged that her husband Aziz Junejo had got her signature on a typed resignation paper at gunpoint in the presence of Faryal Talpur, sister of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, and MNA Rafique Jamali.
She appealed to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Asif Zardari to take notice of the matter.
Talking to journalists here on Monday, she said she and Aziz Junejo, a former irrigation engineer, had estranged relations for about a year. On Sept 18, according Ms Junejo, her husband called her and asked her to see him at Zardari House in Karachi. Faryal Talpur and Rafique Jamali were present when she reached there.
She claimed that her husband had got her signature at gunpoint in their presence and asked her to leave the house immediately. He also accused her of having taken money from TMOs, although she was not allowed to visit her constituency during the past year, she added.
Ms Junejo asked how could her resignation be accepted by the speaker without inviting her to confirm it. She threatened to take the matter to court if the party leadership did not provide her justice.

My heart goes for Sindh's mother and my sister for such treatment from her tyrant husband and his gang. Without fail every day we degrade ourselves in the eyes of the modern world with our ancient stone age behavior. I am ashamed of myself for being a man from Sindh. No words are strong enough to condemn such injustices with our women. When such a modern educated pretty and elected woman is treated this way then how ordinary women are treated!

She is now opening her mouth after keeping silent for couple of days. If she was forced to resign, she could have immediately leaked it to the media or notified it to the Speaker of the Assembly. She is an unknown figure and nobody has ever heard, if she was worker of PPP or even if she has ever played an effective role in the Provincial Assembly. She was only occupied seat, as a waste of vote of voters, based on the influence of her husband. No surprise, no injustice, no regrets, if her feudal lord has stripped off her statuesque as Assembly Member.

You can imagine from the helplessness of an MPA what is happening in Sindh. Sindh is being ruled as personal state for meeting personal objectives. There is no law just submission to powerful. Even though this is a story in making and too many open questions at this point, but what can come out of this would be either, nothing and the matter will be swept under the carpet, or it will tell us about the corrupt and indecent behaviors of the people in politics these days, nothing we don't already know, or will discover new lows.
Question is what what we will do about it?
People will have to reform themselves first and then the society there is no other magical/revolutionary/administrative way out of this.

I endorse PTI, however in this case the constituency which happens to be my home town belongs to Ms. Junejo's husband Aziz Junejo. Mr. Aziz's father Amir Bux Junejo was always elected from this constituency. Ms. Junejo was got elected with her husband's support.

Moreover, Durrani - the speaker - is the most guilty in this respect for having accepted the resignation without inviting her for a meeting as per "rules". Being one of the culprits the speaker needs to be removed by the ECP. Is the ECP listening ? Perhaps not.

PTI had done bad with Zuhra Shahid, she quitted PTI 6 months prior to her murdered by some one knows her house well. I was in youth group of PTI in Govt Commerce college but PTI workers has no respect for women, they expect us to dance on the streets only. Same with PPP.

Perveen Junejo has been extremely brave and courageous for speaking out against the powerful mafia that runs her own political party. This is the beginning of change. The act had been committed in presence of two witnesses without being objected to.
