Website review: WriterKata

Published September 20, 2014

YOU may want to write an article or a story but you just simply don’t know how to begin, because writing doesn’t come easy to everyone. So you may encounter many hurdles on the way to writing and it is likely that out of frustration, you leave the task.

Here is WriterKata, a website dedicated to improve the craftsmanship of your writing through simple and repetitive exercise.

As the name suggests, ‘kata’, which is actually a system of individual training exercises in karate, here refers to random exercises divided into four stages: sentence, paragraph, sketch and story.

Just write as you are instructed and see your progress. Upon completion of the kata cycle, you will earn experience points and may begin another cycle. The scenario and writing style is described in detail to give your writing a sense of purpose, however, if you don’t like the scenario or can’t think of anything interesting to write, you can skip it altogether.

The focussed writing exercises are a big help for beginners on their writing journey and the good thing is that it is free.

WriterKata.com is a surprisingly fun way to practice writing. So don’t hesitate and start practicing to be a good writer. And a good writing ability will help you in all subjects, not just English.
