ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday chaired a high level meeting to discuss matters pertaining to national and regional security.

The meeting was attended by Adviser to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Chief of General Staff Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed and Director General military operations Major Gen Amir Riaz.

Prevailing National and regional security situation was reviewed in the meeting which also discussed the law and order situation in Balochistan and Karachi.

COAS General Raheel Sharif gave a briefing regarding his talks with the Nato and International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) commanders, and Afghan leadership in Kabul yesterday and and security for second phase of Afghan Presidential elections.

The prime minister during the meeting said that national security was of paramount importance for the country.
