KARACHI: Opener Nasir Jamshed and paceman Mohammad Irfan were left out from the Test squad announced on Tuesday for Pakistan's tour to Zimbabwe.
Khurram Manzoor was recalled to the Test squad in place of Jamshed , who managed just 51 runs in Pakistan's 3-0 whitewash against world number one Test team South Africa in the away series earlier this year.
27-year-old Manzoor was surprisingly dropped after scoring a brilliant 77 in the last of his seven Tests, against Australia in 2010. He failed to break into the national team despite scoring heavily in domestic matches.
Imran Farhat and Faisal Iqbal have been retained while Taufeeq Umar was left out.
Pakistan will open the tour with two Twenty20 internationals in Harare on August 23 and 24 before playing three one-day internationals on August 27, 29 and 31 -- all in Harare.
The first Test starts in Harare on September 3 while the second Test opens in Bulawayo on September 10.
Irfan, the tallest man ever to play international cricket at seven feet one inch, will be part of the one-day and Twenty20 teams but has been rested for the Tests in order to keep him fresh for the series against South Africa in the United Arab Emirates later in the year.
All-rounder Anwar Ali is the only change in the one-day squad after, replacing Wahab Riaz. Suhaib Maqsood is also in the T20 squad along with Ali after a successful domestic season.
Wicket-keeper Adnan Akmal, younger brother of Kamran, also returned to the Test team after losing his place to Sarfraz Ahmed on the South Africa tour.
Kamran once again failed to make any of the squads, while Shoaib Malik was also ignored.
Former captain Moin Khan was appointed manager of the team after the resignation of Naveed Chema with Dav Whatmore leading the coaching staff.

Taufeeq before SA series was doing well with hafeez, I thought jamshed was selected in his place as he was not fit... Anwer Ali should have been in the test squad too.
I can understand resting Irfan.
Harris Sohail should have been given a chance at test level too. We should have given youngsters a chance to prove against a very weak side like zimbabwe.

What a "shameful" act by these selectors, have no enough words to denounce inclusion of Faisal Iqbal and Imran Farhat. What are they trying to achieve here? Should these two be allowed to make some good scores against the minnows for having them on board for next 2 years again. Faisal Iqbal who has an average of 22 in tests and similar in ODI has played 50 international in 10 years but still the selectors try to find a player in him while prospects like Haris Sohail are left out. And then what is the reason behind leaving Mohammad Irfan out of the test team.

It is a naked corruption. They are are leaving Umar Akmal, Haris Sohail, Jamshed and Irfan out of the tests and theyFaisal Iqbal is back so that he can score some runs at last against the minnows. The man with the famous uncle has an batting average of only 22 in about 50 internationals and has been hanging on for 12 years while young talent like Fawad Alam is dicarded after a few matches even when with double as big a batting average then the nephews and son-in laws. Very shameful biased act of these selectors. PCB officials, including the chairmen are destroying cricket in pakistan.

What is Imran Farhat doing in this team ? If you needed someone it had to be Nasir Jamshed who has lot of promise. After all this hue and cry, someone would have to mighty braves as well as shameless to still pick Farhat. Apart from that its really disappointing that the report mentions "Kamran failed to make to any of the squads". Kamran not being in team is not a news items, its what it should have been 7 years ago.

Imran Farhat's father in law isa senior officer of PCB . He thinks it is his duty to keep on including him intheTeam inspite of his failing to perform in the last four years . Imrann Farhat is specially keen about inclusion in theTeam for Zimbabwe . He thinks against this wreaker Team he can make some runs and establish himself for a few more years . Mind boggling selection! It should have been other way around. Hafeez should have been dropped from TEST and Nasir should have been in there. Hafeez will never be a successfull TEST batsman because of the technical deficiencies. He is a flat track bully. Remeber how Dale Styne had his number. If he could speak few words of english it doesn't mean that he is an automatic choice. We have been on that route with Salman Butt also. Umar akmal deserved a chance in TEST also. He is one of the best youngsters with great potential. Lot better than the Hafeez and Imran Farhat, What a waste of talent! Now Hafeez and Imran Farhat will score centurys against minnows and cement their place again for another year. what a joke! Wahab Riaz over Irfan, seriously? Influence in selection and favouritism is ruining our cricket.

He has been getting chances for last 12 years and still after 50 international matches, his batting average stands at 22 which is more like an indian bowlers batting average. Why should we go on with these priviliged ones only because they have some uncle or father sitting at a high profile desk in PCB? Why not play Umar Akmal instead of him or include the future hope Haris Sohail who is been pushed to play T20 as No. 6 batsman which only needs to slog. I don't understand people who want these non starters to come again and again even after trying of a decade where as young players like Fawad Alam with double as much batting average are discarded after a couple of matches.

Can't believe Imran Farhat again included in test squad. Nasir would have been much better choice. Why Umar Akmal not included in Test as a specialist batsman. It is time for him to be part of the team in all format of the game. We are losing a top caliber batsman. Any time you can compare him with Virad Koli provided that he gets chance to play in test cricket. Instead of Adnan Akmal should have tried Mohamamd Rizwan as a wicket keeper. Also Ahamad Shahzad should be given chance at test level. Why selectors keeping talent from Test cricket

And, we expect this Country to perform better - under these pathetic selection favors. What if Farhat makes some score against (Minnows) Zimbabwe then we would have bear with him for next two years. Mind boggling selection policy. Not a single new young talent is there in Test side. Many old, tried, tested, failed and 'sifarshi' players have made the cut. I wish we learn from our mistakes and take some leaves out of the Indian selection committee's book. Zimbabwe tour was the best platform to groom young cricketers.

Pakistan is one of the only few countries whose players despite repeated poor form , have no shame to retire. One may note that Adam Gilchrist announced his retirement , when he dropped a catch behind the stumps at age 36.
Selectors are not behind either. Pakistan is also very famous to drop a player and next time the guy is nominated captain of the team.
The only way to get rid of Imran is to send him with his father in a bout in Indian ocean without oars and food. His father was a useless test player. Like father like son.
Instead of his selection selectors should have included a young and talented player. It is next to impossible to teach new tricks to an old horse.

I understand the selection process is challenging but including Imran Farhat in the Test squad is not the way to go. Please include some young talent. Giving Mohammad Irfan a break from test is a good idea. He has played non stop cricket since December of last year. Fast bowlers need a break. Giving Anwar Ali an opportunity is an excellent idea!! What about Umar Gul (still injured?) and Abdul Razzak? Abdul Razzak is an amazing allrounder... forget about what happened, he apoligised and now lets move on. We need players like him for future of Pakistan, please consider taking him back in the side. As far as excluding Nasir Jamsed from Tests is a good idea (he needs the break) but his replacement should be younger players. I am glad Afridi and Umar Akmal are in the T-20 and ODI squad. They both did amazing in the West Indies series. They bring positive energy to the team which is what we need.

Faisal Iqbal is Javed Miandad's nephew and Imran Farhat is M. Ilyas' son-in-law.. aren't those good enough qualifications to be included in the team?? The one good thing that came out after the CT disaster that we finally got rid of Imran Farhat and Kamran Akmal. When the team for WI was announced we all took a sigh of relief and most people thou8ght this team will win all matches.
But Imran Farhat is back again against the weak Zimbabwe. For sure he will score 30, 40 or 50 runs and become a permanent players leading up to the World Cup in 2015.
I suggest that Wasim Akram and Rameez Raja should refuse to go to Zimbabwe as commentator to protest for inclusion of Imran Farhat.
And will they ever consider Fawad Alam. Much better then most players in the team.

The other day Big Irfan was reported to have uttered words which are against the PCB code of conduct " My aim is to break into the top 10 ranking of the bowlers ! " LOL , in comes the PCB rejoinder , man you are even fit to play test cricket Yar so why you even aim for a ranking !!! This is how talent is found and nurtured ( I mean in fact destroyed ) by the god fathers of the pakistan cricket , I can safely assume , had it not been the Foot pressure of towering Imran Khan , there would have been No Wasim Akram and No Waqar Younus going any where forward than playing one or 2 tests and then discarded as No Hope . All the selectors have not done is to bring back shoab Malik too but who knows , may be there will be a late call from the Captain TookTook , to send him in as an urgent reinforcement as an all rounder cos he will suit the zimbabwain pitches !!!!

Test and ODI squads need to be alike. At the most only one change needed in the two squads. In test matches batsmen get good practice to stay on the wicket and improvise their shots. And when it comes to ODI match the test match experience helps the same batsmen to stay on the wicket and play full 50 overs with respectable score. Look at India, Srilanka, England always keeping their specialist batsmen in both formats.
Sadly for Pakistan non of the top Nasir, Shahzad and Umer Akmal ODI batsmen are included in TEST squad. But none the less they will be blamed when Pak team scores 170 odd runs in ODI game.....

Tour was an ideal oppurtunity for young promising players like Umar Akmal Amin and Harsi Sohail (who averages 50 plus in First class cricket) for the sake of batsmen like Imran Farhat (whose father in law is a selector) and Faisal Iqbal ( who is nephew of Javed Miandad ) who have had so many oppurtunities and still they have mediocrity to show for it. Faisal averages 26 (after 26 Tests) and Imran averages 32 (after 40 Tests) . Even if they scores 100's in Zimbabwe will not mean anything. Had a youngster got experience he would served Pakistan Cricket more and been groomed to play against tougher teams like England or Australia. Sad and selfish selections.

Imran Farhat is becoming the most hated Pakistani crickter. I thought South Africa was the last of Imran Farhat we would ever see. But here we go again; he has been given a another chance to bring up his batting average against a weaker side. I have never seen so much outrage against any other player in the recent history. And rightly so!
I would really like to know what criteria/stats are being used to determine batting line-up. I am pretty sure there are many batsmen with a better batting average in domestic cricket. Or may be senior players are not stepping up to open the innings. Great players like Sachin, Mahela, Sangakkara have all stepped up in the past and openend the innings for their team and moved up and down the order. Why can't Pakistani players do the same.
I am just really confused by the selectors decision to include Imran after so much backlash at the end of South African tour. Selector need to set precendence that if you don't perform you need to take a break and prove yourself before getting anothe chance.

Pakistani cricket, one of the many manifestations of things that are wrong with our country. This was bound to happen. Sifarishi XI. Cannot wait to watch Imran Farhat fail miserably even against Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, even then, our selectors will turn a blind eye to that.

Pakistan should bring back Taufeeq Umar and Umar Akmal in place of Imran Farhat and Faisal Iqbal in Test squad.Very poor move and poor thinking of Pakistan selectors.

Ha ha ha. Congratulation selectors, you have done good job by not allowing Pakistan to waste talents. The million time tested are back again. At least let us know who is heading this selection committee. The selection committee head in not clear yet, so we know who is the real joker behind selecting Imran Farhat and Faisal Iqbal. If Javad Miandad is behind all this, he is no more a good person for me.

Team selection makes you think that whoever is in charge of this process is either not wise enough for this responsibility, or there is something else at play - cricketing sense is clearly not at play.
Umar Akmal and Nasir Jamshed must be included in all formats of the game if they are to be developed further as world class players. It is rubbish to think that these two will acquire a better temperament just by playing domestic cricket. Looking at the talent, you clearly see these two as frontline batsmen in the side with Jamshed being a regular opener and Umar at number three or four.

I felt the team selection for WI was best and on Merit, I wish we could have continued with the same players, minus Wahab Riaz. Also what did Imran Farhat do to be back ? Most importantly why Rizwan (wicketkeeper) has been dropped without given a chance to play in a single match and now Adnan Akmal is back... confused.....

I always taught that Salim Jaffer is an honest selector but this time he amazed all cricket lover by selecting Imran Farhat.If Imran Farhat have an iota of honesty and love for country he must withdraw from the tour by himself.Tuk tuk baba must be happy that his yes men are back in team.for the sake of cricket and its survival in Pakistan hopes that Zimbabwe beat us in this tour especially in test match.

What happened to Umar Akmal, Ahamad Shahzad and Nasir that Farhat and Iqbal called back. If selectors take one step forward they make sure to take two steps back to keep the tradition going. Playing test matches would have been a great opportunity for young Umar Akmal, Ahamad Shahzad and Nasir to build their confidence , temperament and get ready for world cup ODI squad.
