KARACHI, July 28: A protest demonstration was held in front of the Karachi Press Club on Sunday against the murder in Thatta of Rafique Jalbani, the son of senior journalist Abbas Jalbani.

Protesters belonging to the Progressive Youth Front called for arrest of main suspects nominated in the FIR of the case and provision of shelter to flood-hit people of Thatta for whose cause Rafique Jalbani struggled.

They carried banners inscribed with slogans against the alleged land mafia. They termed Rafique Jalbani a progressive and conscientious social activist who worked for the welfare of the poor.

Jamaat-i-Islami Sindh’s Information Secretary Mujahid Channa also condemned the killing of Rafique Jalbani.

In a statement, he called upon the officials concerned to conduct probe into the murder and award exemplary punishment to the culprits.

He extended condolences to Abbas Jalbani and prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved family.

Thatta district leaders of the JI Altaf Ahmed, Abdul Hameed Shoro and Abdul Majeed Samon also extended condolences to Abbas Jalbani over the murder of his son.
