KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Saturday remanded five suspects in the custody of the CID police till July 19.

The CID claimed to have arrested six suspects — Abdul Rehman, Talha, Muhammad Mehtab, Kazim Ali Shah, Mohammad Asim and Muhammad Farhan — in Orangi Town on July 11 after a shoot-out and seized unlicensed weapons and explosives from them.

The CID produced five suspects before the court of a judicial magistrate (west) for remand in cases pertaining to encounter with police and possession of illicit weapons and explosive substance.

The investigation officer informed the court that the sixth suspect, Farhan, died in custody and submitted his medical reports in court. The magistrate remanded the suspects in police custody till July 19.

The CID claimed that the suspects were affiliated with the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi and they also disclosed to their involvement in the assassination of Muttahida Qaumi Movement lawmaker Sajid Qureshi, his son as well as that of Prof Sibte Jafar.
