GUJRAT, April 11: Police claimed to have gunned down a dacoit with a Rs0.2 million head money in an alleged encounter near Shah Sirmust village late on Sunday night.

Police said a vehicle of Lalamusa Sadar police was on routine patrol in the area without revolving light when it suddenly came under fire by unidentified outlaws.

Soon a heavy contingent of police was called on the spot and a crossfire ensued between the police and the outlaws who were positioned in the fields near the village.

The police said the crossfire resulted in the death of an outlaw, later identified as Shehzad Maseeh of Jattowakal village. Two unidentified accomplices of the killed outlaw fled the scene, the police said.

According to police, Shehzad was wanted in several robbery cases and carried a Rs0.2 million head money.

Police have recovered a Kalashnikov, hundreds of bullet rounds and two hand grenades from the scene.

Lalamusa Sadar police have registered a case against the outlaws.

SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead by his neighbours over a fight between children at Bhojpur village in Karianwala police precincts on Monday.

Reports said Hayat went to the house of his neighbours to complain to them that his son was beaten by their children. This sparked a quarrel between them during which Hayat was shot dead. Police have yet to register the case.

KILLED: A youth was killed after being repeatedly hit with a cricket bat during a clash between two teams at Dali Banth village in Kunjah police precincts on Monday.

Reports said a cricket match was in progress when the two sides had a clash over some issue. During the clash, Mudassar along with three others attacked Hasan of the same village, hitting him repeatedly with a bat. Hasan was left critically injured and was shifted to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
