Ex-Ranji Trophy player Bashir Basti dies

KARACHI, Jan 4: Former Aligarh University cricket captain and ex-Ranji Trophy player Bashir Ahmed Basti died at the age of 87 here on Friday.

The Jalandhar-born Bashir took 15 first-class wickets in two games for UP in 1946 including a career best figures of 8-42 as a fast medium bowler.

He remained secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP) from 1965 to 1971. He was also founder chairman of the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA).

Late Bashir was a great patron and supporter of cricket and activities in Karachi Gymkhana.

National chief selector Iqbal Qasim and the president of PVCA Fawad Ijaz Khan, while lauding his contribution in cricket, expressed their condolence on his death.—APP
