Permanent military bases in Fata planned

ISLAMABAD, Sept 17: The federal government has decided to set up permanent military bases in North and South Waziristan, comprising accommodation, offices and other related infrastructure for security forces.

According to interior ministry sources, the project would cost Rs1.4 billion. The bases will be built in Warsak, Parachinar, Razmak and Samar Bagh areas.

The sources said that funds for the project, to be completed in two years, had been approved by the Planning Commission.

The sources said the Frontier Corps was entrusted with the task of ensuring security along the northwestern borders of Pakistan which required permanent placement of more troops in the area.

Because of the situation along the Pak-Afghan border, the sources said, the strength of security forces would be increased and their deployment in the area would be made permanent to check cross-border movement of terrorists.

The sources said that Rs48.4 million would be spent on construction of barracks and ranks quarters in Parachinar.

For construction of barracks for the Swat Scouts in Warsak, Rs 44.165 million has been allocated. At other locations in the same area, barracks and relevant complexes will cost Rs44.165 million.

Besides, Rs1.26 billion has been entrusted for accommodation for additional wings in Thall, Warsak, Razmak and Samar Bagh.—APP
