MIANWALI: A synthetic hockey turf has been laid at Tariq Niazi Olympian Hockey Stadium here by Deputy Commissioner Shahid Abbas Kathia and MPA Ali Haider Noor Khan.
The turf is built at a cost of Rs 350 million. Divisional Sports Officer of Sargodha Rana Nadeem Anjum, District Sports Officer Muhammad Mumtaz Khan, and a large number of hockey players were also present on the occasion.
A friendly match between two hockey teams was also played on the stadium to mark the inauguration.
Speaking on the occasion, MPA Ali Haider Noor Khan Niazi said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has provided funds for the rehabilitation and renovation of the stadium.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Shahid Abbas Kathia said that the rehabilitation and renovation of the hockey stadium will help promote the game of hockey in the region.
He said a modern cricket arena and paddle courts will also be inaugurated soon.
