KURRAM: Three people were injured in separate landmine explosions in the Dandar Sahara area of Parachinar, police sources said here on Sunday.

The sources said that the blasts occurred one after another along unpaved tracks in the area, injuring Hamid Hussain, Sajjad Ali and Yasir Hussain. The injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Parachinar for medical treatment.

Hamid Hussain, a shepherd, lost his both legs in the explosion. Kurram Deputy Commissioner Fahad Wazir visited the hospital following the explosions.

Talking to Dawn, he expressed concern over the incidents and said a de-mining team had arrived in Parachinar.

He said the team would be dispatched to areas from where complaints regarding landmines had been received and would carry out de-mining operations to clear the affected areas and prevent such incidents in future. A day earlier, a landmine explosion in the border area of Pewar had injured one person.

There has been an increase in landmine explosions in Kurram in recent times, causing concern among residents.

A tribal leader, Haji Zamin Hussain, called for effective measures to prevent such incidents and demanded a special relief package for people affected by landmine explosions.
