KARACHI: Syed Musharf Hussain Rizvi, Assistant Permit Officer, Karachi, was sentenced in two cases to six months RI and a fine of Rs 5,000 in one case and six months RI and a fine of Rs 1,000 in the other by Mr Feroz Nana, Special Judge, on Saturday [Aug 11]. He was found guilty by the Special Judge on charges of bribery and forgery alleged against him by the Pakistan Special Police.

Mirza Abbas Beg, alleged accomplice of Syed Rizvi, was sentenced … to six months RI and a fine of Rs 1,000. The prosecution case against Syed Rizvi was that he had accepted bribe through Mirza Abbas and forged entries in the Permanent Settlement Permit applications. In one case Rizvi was alleged to have accepted Rs 350 from Mr Mohammad Yusuf through … Beg as consideration for issuing “Permanent Settlement Permit” to him and his family. He was further alleged to have forged some entries in the permit application of Mr Yusuf. …

He was sentenced under sections 161/465 PPC and section 5 of the Prevention of Corruption Act to six months RI and a fine of Rs 1,000 under each count. The sentences are to run concurrently.
