DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Presidential award-winning Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) officer Inayatullah, popularly known as ‘Tiger’, has resigned from the police, saying he was disheartened by what he described as discriminatory treatment meted out to him by the department instead of recognising his services in the fight against terrorism.
Mr Inayatullah, who heads the BDU here, confirmed his resignation while senior police authorities have reportedly refused to accept it, according to sources.
“I have resigned because, instead of acknowledging my services, discriminatory action is being taken against me at the departmental level,” Mr Inayatullah said, adding that the treatment had left him “deeply disappointed”.
According to sources, the officer submitted his resignation after a meeting with senior police officials following the recent blast at Ejaz Shaheed Police Lines here. The exact nature of the departmental action and the officer’s other grievances has not been officially disclosed.
Mr Inayatullah has served on the frontline of the fight against terrorism and played a key role in defusing numerous improvised explosive devices and other dangerous explosives, helping prevent loss of lives. His services have also earned him a Presidential Award.
The BDU also performed its duties during the blast at Ejaz Shaheed Police Lines, according to sources. However, these sources said Mr Inayatullah was allegedly overlooked despite his services, causing him to resign.
The development has caused concern among citizens and police circles, with calls for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor, the chief minister and the IGP to look into the matter.
They have urged the authorities to address the officer’s grievances, reconsider his resignation and conduct a transparent inquiry into the alleged discriminatory treatment.
Police authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the officer’s allegations or explain the circumstances surrounding his resignation.
