BAHAWALPUR: Daniwal police on Tuesday booked three injured inmates for allegedly rioting and clashing with the staff of Vehari district jail on Sunday night, while the brother of one of the prisoners has moved court alleging torture of his sibling by jail administration.

The court has summoned the jail administration in response to the application.

According to the police, the case has been registered against the three inmates under FIR No 444/26 under sections 353, 506 and 186 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of Assistant Superintendent Jail (ASJ) Bashir Hussain.

In his complaint, the ASJ stated that on the evening of Aug 9, three prisoners – Hassan Munir, Fakhra Zaman and Hassan Ali – allegedly refused to return to their barrack and take meals. Meanwhile, the ASJ alleged that Hassan Munir hit the barrack in-charge, Nadeem, with a curry plate.

However, when the inmates were forcibly lodged in the barrack, they attempted to break its iron grill. When the jail staff tried to control them, the inmates hit their own heads with the barrack’s iron grill, suffering head injuries, the ASJ claimed.

The ASJ further alleged in the FIR that when the injured prisoners were brought out of the barrack for their treatment, they attacked the jail guards and tore their uniforms.

At this, the jail administration called Daniwal police, which, on their complaint, registered the FIR against the three inmates, who had been imprisoned in different cases.

On the other hand, prisoner Hassan Munir’s brother, Badar Munir, filed an application to a local court, alleging that the jail administration tortured his brother, seeking a judicial probe into the incident.

In response to the application, the court has summoned the jail administration.

HONOUR KILLING: Two brothers, along with their three accomplices, allegedly poisoned their sister in the name of ‘honour’ at Vigomall village in the limits of Kahrorpacca police station in Lodhran district on Tuesday.

According to the police, two brothers – Ashiq and Ijaz – suspected their sister of having an affair. The brothers, along with their accomplices Ghulam Shabear, Yaseen and an unidentified man, allegedly poisoned their sister, Kausar, who died on the spot.

To conceal their crime, the suspects claimed that their sister had died by suicide.

On being informed of the incident, a police team, along with the crime scene unit, reached the village and collected evidence from the crime scene. The police shifted the body to the hospital for the postmortem examination.

However, during the investigation, the police found discrepancies in the suspects’ statements, while the forensic evidence also suggested that it was not a case of suicide. The police later registered a murder case against the suspects and said that further legal action will be taken in light of the initial postmortem report.

The police also said that the samples from the victim’s abdomen would also be sent to a laboratory for analysis to ascertain poisoning.

RAPE ATTEMPT: Gaggo Mandi police claimed to have arrested two suspects who allegedly attempted to rape a minor boy at gunpoint at Chak No 187/EB.

According to the police sources, ‘B’, a 13-year-old son of Ahmed, was playing outside his house when two suspects, ‘MA’ and ‘IJ’, lured him to a room of a building, where they allegedly attempted to rape him at gunpoint.

However, on hearing the screams of the boy, some passersby and neighbours rushed to the building. On seeing them, the suspects fled the scene.

Later, on the complaint of the boy’s father, Gaggo Mandi police registered a case against the suspects and arrested them in a raid.

The police also claimed to have recovered the pistol from the suspects.
