SUKKUR: A pylon carrying a high-voltage transmission line was partially damaged when four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were detonated allegedly by some terrorists in Jacobabad on Monday night.

Power supply to many areas in Balochistan was disrupted for many hours as the transmission line connects the affected feeders with the Guddu Power Plant.

Initial inquiry into the incident suggested that one IED was planted on each of the four foundations of the pylon, standing at a desolate place falling within the limits of the Dilmurad police station of Jacobabad district.

According to the police, the incident occurred near Lahi Chari. They said the four IEDs were detonated one after the other to cause collapse of the pylon. However, they added, the blast caused damage only to its foundations and disruption in power supply.

Technical teams from the power utility proceeded to the blast site after police and their bomb disposal squad (BDS) thoroughly inspected the spaces around the pylon and gave a clearance.

Jacobabad SSP Faizan Ali Arain also visited the site along with a strong police contingent to supervise the BDS operation. The area remained cordoned off while the police collected circumstantial evidence during the operation. According to the BDS team, about 2.5 to three kilograms of explosive material was used to carry out the attack.The SSP said that several police teams had been formed to trace out and arrest the culprits.

A team of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Larkana started its own investigation into the incident. There were no reports of any arrest during the ongoing search for suspects in the nearby villages.

An FIR of the incident was also yet to be registered till late Tuesday evening.
