KARACHI: A toddler drowned in a drain in the Malir area, rescue services officials said on Tuesday.
They added that four-year-old Abu Turab Saddam drowned after falling into the drain near his residence in Nadir Magsi Goth, on the outskirts of the city.
Rescue-1122 spokesperson Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan said that they received information about the incident at around 8:23pm on Monday. A rescue team continued searching through the night but could not find the boy. He said the rescue operation was slow because of the darkness.
On Tuesday morning, when they resumed the operation, the boy’s body was found floating in the water around six kilometres from the place where he had drowned.
The corpse was recovered and shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
Woman ‘dies by suicide’
A woman died by suicide in Scheme-33 on Monday night.
Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said that the body of the woman, identified as Mumtaz, 58, was brought to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital on Monday night.
A post-mortem examination was conducted, which found a fatal injury to her neck.
Sachal SHO Wilayat Shah claimed that the woman had died by suicide. However, he said investigators were working on the ascertain the exact motive.
