PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Fisheries and Livestock Khurshid Khattak on Tuesday launched a fish stocking campaign in Karak district by releasing 400,000 fish fingerlings into the Zebi and Makh Banda dams.

The director general and assistant director fisheries, Karak, were also present on the occasion.

The minister said that the stocking programme would help protect aquatic biodiversity, increase fish production and boost economic activity in the district.

Highlighting governance reforms, he said that the fisheries department had improved transparency and merit in the allocation of fishing rights. He directed the fisheries officials to ensure continuous monitoring of the dams, protect fish stocks and prevent illegal fishing to secure long-term success of the initiative.
